Mass Effect (original)
Is there a trick to making this game actually work in Windows 7? I have it via Steam. It loaded and played in the initial stages, where you walk around the deck of the ship. But upon first mission starting, it crashes on loading, with the message: "Mass Effect has Stopped Working".
Trying to resume mission upon restart has the same effect.
Any idea why this might be? All my other games/etc work fine.
Windows 7 64.

I played it for about 10minutes to confirm that it works. I have Win7(x64), but my copy was digital purchased through Direct2Drive.

Works fine on my PC ... also purchased through Steam. Perhaps a driver issue of some sort?

Clay is having a L.ocal U.S.E.R issue :-)

Donno, updated all my drivers, turned everything nonessential off. Crash back to desktop every time I try resuming my game. Thought it was maybe a bad save, so restarted anew. Was able to make a character, play through the entire initial scene on the ship, and at the same spot, crash to desktop.

For the S and G of it, did you tell the executable to be compatible with an older version of windows to get it to run?

It was a corrupt file. Going into Steam and clicking the scan for integrity (or somesuch) option found a messed up file, and reacquired the correct one. How it got corrupted I have no idea, but there we go.
So I'm finally playing the game. It seems pretty cool so far, but they jump you in pretty fast, w/out really knowing what you're doing!
