Now if you could only actually order the ALX with that, I would be all over it (provided I had the cash to spend).

Pretty price though...

WOah! thats so cool, finally something comes from the buyout of 3dFX woOt! Nvidia is on a roll!
That does bring back fond memories of my Quake 2 days, although I don't miss having three video cards in my box...
Yeah.. it only takes 2 NVIDIA products to surpass 1 ATI. :uzi:Quote:

Hylander: ATI just doesnt excite me to much ATM man, specially this go round with the lack of new features etc. SO glad for the competition tho eh! I do however think ATI makes great gaming cards providing excellent performance with so so drivers compared to NVidia IMHO.
Much as ive been impressed with the 5900 is im sure the 6800 with all its goodies will quench any hardcore gamers thirst as well. The reviews seem to indicate such depending on where and what u look at.
For the record ive owned ATI 9000pro (newer 8500 hardware basically), 9500pro that softmodded to 9700 and i owned an 9600 also that i gave to Hardnok. The FX5900 rocks em all IMHO. Had em both installed days apart for comparisons sake. Not talking about one having 80fps and the other having 100, but rather just how the cards felt to me all around.
Just some inf for grins so perhaps yah wont assume im just being a fanboy in general . :talker:
ripped from tech reports preview:
Still, NVIDIA's new SLI will find its niche. Some folks are always hungry for more graphics power, particularly in the workstation world, and they will pay to get their hands on this. Also, provided that motherboards with the right mix of PCI Express slots become widely available, SLI may become something more than a niche product or a showpiece. SLI could become a tipping point in choosing between a Radeon and a GeForce. Why not buy one GeForce 6800GT and add a second one later, when the price comes down? It's always nice to upgrade on an installment plan.
That would be a nice way to almost DOuble your VIdeo on the cheap months later as needed tho eh? I know guys that enjoyed the hell outa sli voodoo setups for years. Neato stuff reguardless!
I'm wondering what the situation will be for reasonably priced mobos that don't require the Xenon CPU around Christmas...
I've definitely got some decisions for my new setup at the end of the year.
I use to be an NVIDIA only user, but I lost much respect for NVIDIA with their last 2 or 3 generations of cards. Once ATI got on the right bandwagon with their driver sets, I jumped ship as fast as I could. It will take a whole lot of "proof" before I go back and buy another.
My wife's Sager notebook has an ATI 9000 mobility in it, I have my 9800 Pro, and I have 2 other systems with NVIDIA cards in them. One is an older MX400 PCI card for a linux box and the other is an NVIDIA GeForce 4200.
I always laugh when NVIDIA supporters talk about "feature sets" when it comes to NVIDIA cards because it always:
A) Doesn't work as advertised
B) Kills framerates when utilized
C) Looks inferior in quality to ATI
D) Increases internal temperatures to near melting point of aluminum.
;)
tnt1, geforce2 and 3 rocked. G4 however im mixed about because it ran some games like crap and u really couldnt use Anisotropy or AA to speak of but it was a fairly fast card for many titles. Without anisotropy it ran tribes2 really well for example. R300 put the smackdown on the lingering g4 no doubt. 5900 is a much more robust card that really does run AA and Anisotropy wonderfully. I run different levels of AA and aniso in every title i play. The 5900 does actually let u use the goodies and have power to spare. No comparison to mx400 or 4200 man. It may not beat the 9800pro in every title FPS wise but its quite a performer with superb aniso image quality.
Having them side by side i could simply make the Nvidia card look and run better in the end. Now with dx9 titles its not as strong tho and that will be why i buy 6800Gt prolly, the first for me SLI setup hehe
Vivo rocks, digital vibrance, better aniso IMO, great overall performance and much more backwards compatible are some of the reasons i dig Nv hardware again. the g4 was a bit of a letdown tho i hear yah there man.
My GF4 is VIVO on my WinXP FTP server box and I use it to watch DirecTV on my PC in my office. S-Video from DirecTV receiver right into card and then I use WinDVR software to record, etc. :)
