Troubleshooting....i need a hand

Got all my parts and and put everything together. Power ok to the board, all fans working. When I power up, nothing. If I had a bunk vid card when i power up i would get nothing, because when the comp checks to see if a vid card is present during boot sequence and finds nothing, it will not continue. Is this line of thinking correct?
Am I also correct in saying that if I had a faulty HD that I would still get something, an error messege?
Is there any way of knowing that I got a bad CPU from the start? I am positive that i didnt do anything boneheaded while attaching the HSF.

Could be the MB or Processor also.. never rule those out.. a lot of people have been having problems with motherboards lately.. people I know anyway. My neighbor had to try 3 different motherboards until he got his working..:(

Are you receiving any kind of "beep" sequence you can match with the motherboard manual? Usually when a motherboard won't boot up it gives off some "beeps" and you can match those up with the motherboard manual to determine what the problem is.

Is the boot up sequence getting past the initial bios, etc ?

Did you put the CPU in yourself? IS the MB jumperless? if not did you make sure the voltage is set correctly?

Remove and reseat your video card. 9 times out of 10, those kinds of problems are linked to a bad connection on the video card. Though, typically your machine will beep a few times letting you know that it's up but it's got no video. Is the internal speaker hooked up?

I'll second Z on that. Sometime back I swapped vid cards out of a PC with an ABIT MB and experienced exactly what you have (no beeps, etc.) Everything looked and felt secure. But removing and reseating the vid card brought it all back to life. Some of the AGP slots are just too tight and a fraction of an inch insertion can make a world of difference.
