Desert Combat Tips & Tactics
It seems that every time we play DC, I pick up new tips and learn new ways to win. I was thinking that perhaps we could all share some of our DC secrets with each other. I'll start: (feel free to correct any mistakes)
Vehicles:
The mobile AA GUN (M163 Vulcan & Shilka)
The radar on these vehicles works best from a higher elevation. Get up on a ridge or mountain and you can see radar signatures for the whole map. Open the map in full screen (M) and you can quickly identify targets (the grey circle). Ignore grey circles with team colors, and ignore grey circles with grey vehicle icons (unmanned)... and what’s left is enemies. Then you can help your team mates track down campers, snipers or that hidden SCUD.
The gun on these vehicles is devastating to troops and lightly armored vehicles. Place the vehicle on a slope so you can target personnel as well as aircraft.
Other Vehicles
Keep the front end of your vehicle, especially tanks, facing the enemy. You have the most armor in the front. Hence, aim at the rear of your target for maximum damage, especially with RPGs.
Helicopters & Planes
Repairing and re-arming can be tricky. Mostly repair is in the hangar or on the hangar roof. If available, helicopter pads do both re-arm/repair. Re-Arm is usually on the airstrip
Maps:
DC Weapons Bunkers:
The engineer can repair the bunker as long as he's near it. You don't have to go inside the bunker to repair.
C4 explosives don't have to placed inside the bunker... you can place them on the roof and detonate for damage
When attacking the bunkers, position a Humvee on the outer perimeter (near the fence holes on the East and West) and use their .50 cals for cover while someone charges the bunker.
DC Sea Rigs
The Oil Spill flag can be held by entering the damaged pipe ends in the water.
The Interior Rig flags can be held by entering the crawl space that access the catwalks under the rig... just go to the dead end of the crawlspace.
DC Lost Village
Once the coalition has captured a few flags, most folks don't fly in the choppers anymore. Instead, park the Blackhawk in front of the factory and use it as fixed gun placement. Most guys don't use the RPG in that map, and the gun does awesome damage to troops.

When driving a jeep, or other fast moving ground vehicle, I find that it's easier to use the external view cam to drive. This was particularly true in the original 1942 jeep since the window frame blocked the most critical portion of your view if you just used the cockpit mode.
When sniping, your bullets experience no drop due to gravity or drift due to wind and appear to hit almost instantly. However, when shooting at a moving target you do need to lead them. This may be just due to lag effects, not sure.
When using the US rocket vehicle, don't shoot directly forward at point blank range.
And for my mostest super secret -secret, counter sniping a base sniper is most effective if you do so from within a building. They can't see you through the windows and doorways so good, but you sure can see them!

When piloting a helicopter (Hind, Apache) use the correct ordinance for the target. Learn which vehicles require the armor piercing stuff and save those until it's appropriate to use them.
The gun on top of the the big flat bed truck (Bunkers, for instance) kicks butt. Better than the guns mounted on Hummers, for instance. It tears up lightly armored vehicles.
Use the gun on the A10 and Frogfoot for armored targets, the bombs for everything else. If you want to blanket an area, simply hold down the bomb button. Repeated tapping will only release 2-3 bombs while you are over a target. Hold down earlier than you think you need to and you'll plaster the entire area.
Bailing out of a helicopter at very low levels is a horrible idea.

You can shoot down enemy helicopters with a tank. It's really not that hard you just need to know how much to lead them.
I use the mobile AA tanks as much as I can. Parking them on a slope allows you to shoot both at air and ground targets. They are not much use angainst heavily armored vehicle like tanks but they rip just about everything else to shreds.

With the A-10 and the Frogfoot, you can slam them into reverse and literally bring them to a hover, allowing you to lay the heavy lumber on your target.
They also can fly extremely slow... like 70 miles an hour.

If you see Stitch around you, get in the prone position behind a barrier to prevent being TK'd.
If you find yourself in a vehicle with Bribo driving, exit the vehicle immediately - regardelss of the speed being traveled.
If you see me flying a helicopter, it's best to hide in buildings and other structures until I've crashed and can no longer cause you any harm.

Ok, since I have not had internet service until today for the last week or two I've played alot of single missions and learned a bit more. First thing I found out is the choppers. To hover or land(when using a joystick), slide the accelerator back and forth pretty fast and you will stay pretty still. You have to have the angle of the chopper in the complete horizon position or you will go forward or back though. Try this trick. It takes a little practice but well worth it when you get it done right. After a few games of El Alamein in single player and trying to hover to take flag and repairing/ammo, I was really starting to get pretty good at it.

I find it useful to arm yourself to the teeth and then hide behind someone that is better than you, then wait for them to get shot to ascertain the wind direction and velocity of the incoming fire. But the real point of the game is not to get shot.
