I think the scuff marks on the stock actually add to the visual appeal of the gun. Very nice indeed. When I'm ready to buy a rifle this one is on the top of my list.
If your interested Ab I have a couple of gunsmithing videos, the 1965 field manual and the original manual for the Garand.
For fun, the military practice targets for that rifle are attached. They are .pdf files reduced for 100 yards, and you can print them on your PC on regular paper.
In regulation:
200 yd = standing and sitting
300 yd = prone rapid fire
600 yd = prone slow fire.
