Retail BF2 Server is out!

For you guys nice enough to be hosting the AK servers, EA's released the full server downloads including the Linux flavor.

Even though they are the unranked server files they've already attached limitations as to what can be "modded/hacked." So no unlocking the extra weapons (which I can see as a way to promote use of the ranked servers from their 'certain point of veiw.') or anything else they deam to be "...undermining a core game feature..."

Hopefully they've included admin features with the installers, if that can be checked out before hand.

You can remove the time limitation though.

Which is cool and such.

I will be setting up a server on my 10Mb connection. Its on the westcoast so not sure how you east coasters will ping, this may help any bandwidth issues you may have Palooka.

Does anyone have a retail server up and running yet? If so could you make a post providing the name and IP?

I'm not sure if I'm going to use the built in voice program with BF2. I still like the freedom of AK only with Vent.

There's a mall run in my future at lunchtime, so I'll try and get a retail server up on my box this afternoon. For voice coms, I'll probably stick with good ol' Ventrilo.

Don't run out too early for lunch. it's shipping today for retail sales tomorrow. Don't be afraid to call your favorite local game reseller and make sure it's in.

Thanks for the heads-up--guess I'll take a late lunch today. I'm going on your patented WaH program this afternoon so maybe I'll give EB a try late this afternoon--they're usually pretty good about having games in the store on Tuesday (the big release day for most CDs, DVDs, and computer/video games).

Currently has all maps in rotation, one round each, most other settings currently default. I don't have remote admin set up yet, but it's in the works. It's currently set up for 64 players--we'll have to see if the box can handle it, but I don't forsee a problem.

Unfortunately I told the wife I would take her out for a date tonight... god it's going to be tough sitting through the meal knowing that it's waiting at home for me.

I never could get the demo to launch it kept crashing to my desktop. I went today to my local EBGames store and was turned away becuase they did not have it in yet. Bummer... I reserved a copy of the DVD version of it. I will be ticked if I can't get it to work. I am reinstalling BF:V just to get my system used to a Battlefield program again. Have yet to reload it since I did the reformat of my HD.

Also could use help on Ventrillo. I also posted on the tech support.

We are getting burned up here, release date is the 23rd :boid: And I'm sure if I pre-ordered from Bestbuy I'd get it next week some time :rolleyes:

I pre-ordered through EBX for local store delivery. I haven't received any phone calls (I gave my work number) or emails yet.

My local EB and CompUSA stores claim not to have it on their website. Best Buy's site says it won't be in until Thursday.

Am I the only who expected a June 22nd release date ?

Did it not say on the demo in huge block letter June 22 release ? I just called my local EB they are expecting it this morning and will be on shelves today. I wonder if EA did the same thing with retailers as they did with the demo release? Allowing eb to release before anyone else? Conspiracy theorists Unite!

I just bought the DVD version at Best Buy during lunch.

I got it at the local EB Games during lunch. Looks like a lot of these places aren't good at keeping the inventory portion of their websites up to date.

Picked up my copy @ EB too :) can't wait to play.

EBX just called.. my copy is in with my free headset. Going to try and sneak out of my office an hour early today. Shhhhh... ;)

I received the call first thing this morning that my copy was in. In the immortal words of Homer Simpson "Wooooohoooooo" :bounce:

I already got my first Medal... got promoted for busting a$$ as a support. It's quite easy... just find a 64 player server and walk around your team with your ammo box extended... they auto-reload... you auto get the point. Nice. (Oh and just lay down and mow the baddies with the SAW when ever you get the chance)

Quick note for those who haven't installed it yet--if you cancel the DirectX 9.0c installation, you'll have to start all over...even if you already have said DirectX version installed. Way to go, EA.

Wow, thats tremendously horrible on their part.

Frankly, the whole Ranked Server and Account Server thing is crap too. They aren't being very clear on any of this and pi$$ing off a lot of folks. EA's BF2 forum in the UK is full of gripes and complaints.

EA is claiming that if you modify the server code (like unlocking all the weapons), you're violating the EULA and that your an evil hacker!. Um.... what's funny is that on the back of my BF2 manual is an order form a book of official EA CHEAT CODES. Can we all say, dur.

1) So far the 'official' servers, (16, 32, 64) are crap. The lag is horrendous and virtually unplayable. Seems everyone is complaining about it.

2) How do you get listed as an 'official' server?

I'm not sure if anyone had this problem, seems to be a bug or something, I would shoot an enemy, get the kill point, and then be punished for a TK. I got to about -20 before I realized what was going on. Anyone else seen anything like this?

I have yet to get it to run on my system. It keeps crashing to my Desktop. I am curious though I have a 128MB Geforce 4 Video card but on the details for the game it wants a Geforce Ti4200 not sure but is that the next level up from my card? Could use some assistance on this. Bums me out I get the game and can't play it.

I saw a bug report on this... it stems from either switching teams or switching teams and killing an ex-squad member.

It happened to me too at first, but then I rememberd, I had automatic overclocking turned on. The game does not like that.
