Field Review
Anyone else free May 1st and/or 2nd? I think you can attend and play on just one day if that's what you prefer.
I'm probably free both of those days. The only thing turning me off is the field paint only/$76 a case specification. Couple that with the $40 entry fee and that's $116 bucks--pretty steep for a weekend's entertainment.
I'll know by days end if I'll be attending. In other news, I'm buying a Spyder Xtra. http://www.kingman.com/section/semi_auto/guns/xtra.html It should be ready for this weekend.
Do you need to use their paint if you bring your own gun? It might be cheaper to go and buy a cheapo package gun for $50 rather than pay those steep paint fees.

Located in Poughkeepsie it would make a convenient day-trip for the Albany AK crew and Squid you could work it into a weekend with the in-laws since they live fairly close to Poughkeepsie if I recall correctly.

Several thoughts, congealed into one post:
Scenarios cost more than ordinary rec-play. Unfortunately that seems
to always be the case. The upside is that there are prizes, a plot, and 300-500 players per side.
Field paint is manditory at Top Gun, regardless of whether or not
you bring your own gun. You will save rental charges if you bring your own.
Primarily, Top Gun makes their money on paint.
You can buy less than 2000 balls of paint... just an observation. If you rent a pump gun or simply avoid spraying you should be able to get by using a lesser amount.
Fax - Awesome news about the gun. Kingmans are very popular guns, and you can upgrade like the wind if you want down the road. Post pictures!

I just placed my order for the Kingman Spyder Victor, along with most of the fixin's that go along with it (squeegee, plug, tank, etc.) as well as a mask, a carton of paintballs, and a butt plate to convert the tank into a shoulder stock for those long-range shots. Just need to go get some camos and I'm good to go!
The other thought is that if there are 4 or 5 of us there we all chip in and by 2000 balls and split them up spreading out the cost.

Bribo - I don't think woodsball requires as much "paint spray" as speedball so the requirements will probably be less. In speedball they pretty much fire non stop from the minute the game starts.
PBreview.com has really helped me make some critical decisions about my marker, and setup. Thanks to Squid for the link at the beginning of the paintball discussion. I've ordered everything offline from www.actionvillage.com. They really have the best prices from any place I've looked. I need to pickup a hopper and some ammo tubes before the weekend, but other than that I should have a full setup by Wed./Thurs. Plenty of time to do some shooting. Here's my setup:

V-Force Shield Mask (sorry to copy you Squid, but the reviews were great, and it was on sale for 29 bucks)
20 oz tank w/butt stock

squeegee
2000 rounds of paintballs
The Shield is sweet...it's got a built in neck protector, which I'm sure my jugular will thank me for before the weekend is over.
What brand of paint did you opt for?
I picked up a Redz "Flex-Tech" 4.3 harness. You can see it here . The Redz warehouse is right down the road from me, so I was able to stop by and avoid shipping costs (as well as get it the same day.) Very comfortable and it includes a key pocket.

Supposedly this stuff is fairly wipe proof to prevent cheating. The filler is thick and chalky paint, rumored to stain clothes. Nice. Unfortunately they only had it in hot pink, but that's ok, as I don't intend to be wearing it. What paint did you pick up?
As far as harnesses, I'll pick up something along the lines of the 4.3 eventually, but for this weekend, I may just use a belt pack, cargo pants and whatever else I can scrounge.
I've got camo and black cargo pants...I'll probably bring both and decide at the last minute which to wear.

Yep, I bought my marker online. With the mask and all of the "add-ons", it was just under $200 shipped (including about $30 for 3 day shipping, to ensure I get it in time for this weekend). (I bought the same mask as well; won't we be a sight.) I also bought the same Zap paint as Faxman--hot pink, just to add insult to injury. I was going to ask if we were going to play speedball or woodsball--I'll want to get some camo for woodsball, but regular clothes would probably be fine for speedball.
The May 1st and 2nd thing definitely will be a camo event. This coming weekend the place has both types of fields. Basically you can choose what you want to play. When I stopped by there were a lot of dudes in black cargo pants and either jerseys or dark sweatshirts. But it was on Wednesday and they're only running speedball on that day.
I thought I read that the May 1st/2nd event was going to be a jerseys event. Or are those just "souvenir" jerseys, like the T-shirts given to participants in a race?
Do you think we're more likely to play speedball or woodsball on Sunday?
Damn, damn, damn...I just looked up my order status on Action Village and discovered that the specific marker I ordered is out of stock (it was listed as in stock when I placed the order). I e-mailed customer service and asked them to ship the same thing in blue instead of green. Hopefully I won't have to upgrade the shipping any further--I already spend $30 on 3-day express shipping.
As long as it's in stock they should be able to get it to you in time. There is a speedball tourney at Top Gun the same day as the scenario we're going to. The scenario is definitely not a speedball event.
The custom jersey thing is optional...some scenarios make up custom jersies for each side that "fit" the scenario. Check out Shatner's custom jersey in last year's "Splat fest".

As far as this weekend, I think most of us have agreed that we'd like to play woodsball more than speedball.
I hope you're right about the shipping time, Squidly. Now when I go to view my order status, the mask also has an "out of stock" next to it. Yet the order is listed as in the warehouse waiting to be shipped. I'm getting very nervous and haven't gotten any response to the e-mail I sent to customer service. I probably won't buy from Action Village again.

If the item was in stock when you got your confirmation email, you'd think it would reserve that item for your order. The items on the website probably show that they're out of stock after the number of items in stock are reserved for orders.

Some the stuff you posted in these threads and the videos really make me want to purchase some equipment.
However, I'll be on vacation on May 1 & 2nd and wouldn't be able to play anyways. Not to mention I have about 10 items higher on the priority list for my disposable income. ;)
Hmm.. But maybe I can start buying a piece of equipment here and there and by mid summer have what I need to play.
