Paintballin' 04-18-04 (Bananas and Bagels)

Just got back from a great day of Paintballin' with the AK boyz.

It was a bright sunny day, temperatures in the mid 80's, and we got 3 fields (maps - heh) in. A couple of the fields we played both sides on.

Everyone's new equipment worked well...no notable malfunctions or forgotten gear.
The tailgating aspect was fun too.

My favorite field featured a large wooden fort (with several levels.) One team defends and another attacks - basically from 360 degrees. We lit some people up on that one!

Stitch took one face shot, I got one in the back of the neck... and most of the rest of our "injuries" were hits to the guns, bottles, or packs. None to the "Gunny"-saq, thankfully. ;) ;) ;)

I'm tired! Hylander - trust me when I say you would not have been out of place.
They had all types playing there today, and everything was run in a very cordial and efficient way.

Good to hear all went well.

That was a blast! It was great to finally meet some of the AK crew, and I think I'm hooked on this game. I think I got maybe one or two frags over the course of all the rounds (if that), but I really enjoyed it. Most of the hits I took were glancing at best--one on the ankle, a couple on the shoulder (just above my harness), and solid one on the arm. I'm actually a bit disappointed by the lack of bruises and welts! ;) I'm ready to go back (after some much-needed rest!) :D

If my expression in the pictures looks confused, it's because I was facing the sun and squinting a bit. And thanks to Mrs. Squidly for putting up with us as we loaded up this morning.

I'm looking at places in my area for future tri-state area AK gatherings. In the meantime, bring on May 1st!

Squid if I didn't see the humor in them I would have said GBY or something like that. If I have never met you before or been gaming with you for the past couple of years I would have an issue with you. That being said thanks for saving me $50. I would have gladly paid Stitch to "accidently" have a shot fly a little low.;)

Since we were all on the same team, TK opportunities were definitely there. There was even an old tractor on one of the fields that we were contemplating starting up to let him use as an ad-hoc TK-jeep.

I must say, Stitch acquited himself well out there (except for the part where he almost shot that dude's eye out...that was a riot.) :)

He has two eyes..... He would be fine with just one. I mean Snake Plisken only has one eye and he saved the president!!!

I have a fantastic time out there today. It was great meeting Faxman and Beast in person. Plus the field was alot of fun to play on. I found myself asking Beast for strat's several times before each round. He was nice enought to provide me with grid locations... LOL After one of the rounds both Beast and Faxman said they didn't like this map and wanted to change.... ha! I guess the virtual world is sometimes hard to let go of.

All of the AK guys did a great job of sticking together for each round and helping each other. The last round was intense as Fax, Squid and I tried to work our way into the fortress..... Then of course we all got lit up like a christmas tree. I started to find great sic joy in yelling out "Dead Man Walking"

Squidly, thank you again for letting me and Bribo stay over. We had a blast!

I'm looking forward to the next time we can all play.

It was great fun meeting everyone, and paintball was a blast. Looking forward to doing it again sometime soon! I'll look into some eastern PA fields and we can set a future date for everyone to meet up again.

Great fun was had by all. I'd encourage all our northeastern AK contingent to get in on the action next time.

It was really great meeting both Fax and Beast in person. You guys are as nice in person as you are on Ventrillo. :)

I let my son fire my gun outside last night and now he wants to try. I'm smelling a new father/son activity. :)

There were a lot of youngsters out there yesterday... I think he'd fit right in.

Of course the funniest player was that guy with the crutches. I still can't get over that.

The best field was the defense of the large "Alamo"-type fort. Though the sandy trench games were great fun as well.

Has anyone signed up for the May 1st event yet? I'll definately play all day Saturday, but probably not Sunday.

I haven't signed up yet... I called and got a voice message saying that the on-field shop is only open Wed, Thur, and Fri. I'll call again Thursday and ask about 1 day play.

I'll need to get in better shape if I hope to play 2 days in a row, that's for sure.

That fort defense "map" was awesome... You could see them coming by looking thru the cracks in the walls.

The "Fort Apache" map ;) was my favorite as well.

Alas, I can't make the May 2/3 event. How about we do another after that in June.. maybe in PA?

Perhaps I would attempt to make that one. I could not make the May event regardless, but possibly a Mid to late June one would work. Just bring lots of oxygen for me in case the temperature goes into the 90s. I don't want Stitch trying to resuscitate me!!

It's May 1st and 2nd.

It gets consistent 9 and 10 ratings on PBReview.com, and it's about 15 minutes from my house. I checked the map and it's just a short hop down I-95--I've probably driven past it before. $20 for an all day pass and field air ($30 if you need to rent gear), and bring-your-own-paint is permitted. It's currently closed for renovations due to some of the windstorms we've had around here during the late winter/early spring, but is supposed to be reopening any day now. I saw on their forums that they're adding new speedball and woodsball fields while they're at it. Looks like an opportune spot for a future paintball get-together.

Yeah, I took 2 of all things. My camera tends to motion blur, so I play it safe. I didn't want any trippy photo's,,,, the group would wonder what we were doing at the field.... LOL
