I think Squidly said it quite nicely. The problem with urban American dictating policy for all America is that reality in the big city is NOT the same reality in small town USA. Let them deal with their local issues locally.
Going back to the gun issue - as an example. Guns in the big city are more likely to be for shooting other humans (self defense for example) than in the rural areas. So soccor moms in the big city generally don't like guns. That's fine, they all have city ordinances on such things. But in Wausau Wisconsin, guns are used to shoot overpopulated deer and put food on peoples plates. Yet if the urban centers control the country - Wausau has to deal with stupid laws that don't reflect this local reality.

And we're back to my point. :-)
Bush came to Montana. We are the fourth largest state in the union, with 800,000 citizens. A whopping 3 Electoral Votes. Kerry never came. If the EC was eliminated, my vote would essentially not count at all. As a side note, our former governor was Bush's first choice for Attorney General (God, we miss Rosco!!) they are friends, maybe thats why he visited.
As for gun control.....OUT OF MY COLD DEAD HANDS!!!! :bounce: :bounce:
I agree that not everyone should have access to the firearms that even I currently posess, but things are a little different in Gods country. As Clay touched upon, over populated animals STARVE to death. Anyone ever seen an Elk starving to death?? Sure as hell won't see that on the PETA site.

The advantage is that in a state like NY the candidates would not be able to take to populace for granted. NY usually votes Democrat so the candidates don't even bother to stump here or even play their ads on TV. They assume all 31 EVs will be going Democrat.Quote:

The small states with fewer population are not going to get the attention of the candidates regardless if we stick with the current EC, go with a popular vote, or some combination of the two like I've suggested.
Again, if you're going to divy up the EC votes proportional to the vote, you might as well just do away with the EC all together.
