Can you try it for free on Steam?
There was a demo version up there last weekend. Not sure if that was a temporary promo item or if it's still around.
You can still get ahold of the L4D demo on Xbox Live!
:-)
Installing now--I'll be around off and on today/tonight, so I'll look for y'all!
I played a little "versus" last night where 4 players are the survivors and four players are ont he zombie team playing the various bosses that spawn in. The zombie team tries to prevent the survivors from reaching the safe house. Once the team either reaches the safe house or is eliminated then the sides switch and the zombies get a turn at being survivors for the same map. This is a lot of fun and up to 8 can play.
Sounds like fun--90% downloaded, so I should be looking for trouble within the hour.
new to steam... how do i join in on L4D with other AK? If I right click on the game or their name, I get the default browser right click menu.
I've purchased and downloading now. I'll be on later this evening for some zombie killing goodness! I'm Hylander12871 on Steam, just as an FYI.
okay... figured it all out. Me and Beast just rocked through No Mercy. Great Game but can't let Nuts Jr sit on my lap through this one... he's bummed. I guess I'll have to play a little bit of Hulk tonight so we can smash stuff.
I just played a few hours with Bribo and Joe - it was an absolute blast. I love Fallout 3, but this is better for pure 'fun'.
That was the best multiplayer game I've played in a long time. Absolute blast. Felt like being in a zombie movie. I was depressed when the chopper left without me. :)
This game is an adrenaline rush like no other. I'll be on later tonight. Look me up.
If any of you are on the fence about getting this, don't be! This is worth the price of admission and is a great deal of fun. I played a few times this weekend with Bribo, his son Joe, and last night with Beast and it was a blast. I'm looking forward to trying the versus mode some time.
If you're looking for a game that is fast paced, a little strategy, and just a whole lot of blowing things away - this is the game for you. Friendly fire is on, so there's plenty of opportunity to [TK]StitchJones your teammates. Poor Beast - I think I unloaded at least a clip or two into him last night. Of course, he also missed the boat and we left without him. :uzi:
Yeah--that was twice. I played with Nuts on Saturday afternoon and tried to fight off the zombies before boarding the chopper on the first episode. Now I know better--once evac comes, you just have to run for it and hope the rest of your team makes it too.
And Hylander--I stayed to watch the "credits" after you and Bribo logged off last night, and I out-damaged teammates by about 2 to 1 over you. I definitely won the Stitch award! :uzi:
There are many opportunities for "Stitch moments" in this game. :)
Want to get some people together for some L4d? What about tomorrow night, say 9pm est?
Tuesday at 9pm EST sounds great to me.
One thing I read and learned earlier in a match was that the longer you sit around the more time you give the 'director' to spawn in more infested and hordes. You have to balance searching an area for health/ammo/explosives and moving quickly along to the safe house. This applies throughout the map and not just the last stand.
I was in a match earlier in which they 3 other guys wanted to fight on the barn roof. They thought they could 'clear' the area.
Also, we should set up some games with 'pistols only' to get those badges.
I have an appointment earlier in the evening, but should be around by 9PM.
I should be around.
What no one got it for the Xbox360? :-(
We like to play with big-boy controllers (you might know them as Mr. Keyboard and Mr. Mouse)! ;)
Looking forward to some AK L4D tonight! Not too late to get in on the zombie-blastin' action, folks! :uzi:
Okay, I'm sold. I'll download it today.
I'm finding more people going after specific achievements today ("don't heal me", pistols only, passing pills to team mates, etc)
Haven't had that much fun in a long time. Thanks for the great games, folks! Let's do it again over the long weekend.
very very different game in versus mode. hard.
Next time let's hop on vent. The in-game chat is good but not quite as good as vent. PLus it'll be more fun with all of us in one channel.
Otherwise, I had a blast last night. Versus mode is a lot of fun and as Nuts said - really hard - especially when that tank comes out.
I'll be away for the holiday but back on Saturday night for some more AK L4D!
I haven't laughed that much while playing a game in awhile. The Versus mode is definitely a different and much more difficult mode of the game. Once I got the leaping down on the hunter - that was alot of fun. I only got to be the tank once, and the smoker twice, but I love the way everyone cycles in and out instead of just 'fixed' for the whole map.
I won't be available tonight, but I'll be around for the weekend so please post if you set a specific time frame so I can plan my iRacing around it. ;)
That was even more fun than the co-op campaigns! When a human-controlled tank comes in--look out! (Unless I'm the tank. I think I set a record last night for the shortest tank life ever.) :D
I'll be away until Monday but I'll definitely be up for more next week!
Just an FYI for those that don't get Maximum PC, they gave it a 10 out of 10 and this info regarding the game. But heres a snip of info regarding 're-playability':
Quote:
Left 4 Dead’s zombie horde is controlled by a technology called AI Director, a complex intelligence algorithm that tracks and monitors your performance throughout the game to dynamically ramp up or tone down the difficulty. Attributes like the health of the team, available ammunition, and accuracy are taken into consideration when the director decides how many zombies to throw at you in each set piece.
This ensures that the game not only feels balanced when you’re playing with strangers of varying shooter aptitude but also that no two sessions will play out the same way. Variables that are changed include the number and location of the zombies you encounter, the timing of Boss Infected attacks, and the placement of weapon, health, and ammo drops. So even though you might learn the layout of a level after running through it a few times, you can still expect to be challenged and surprised by the AI Director’s unpredictability. Left 4 Dead will ship with a software development kit that’ll let modders build their own levels and populate them with the AI Director, as well. We can’t wait to see what the community will do with this powerful tool.
Would like to see a map set on a cruise ship... that would rock.
