Even if that's true... they won't get to vote 6 or 7 times each courtesy of Acorn like the Obama supporters.

Most folks who vote for McCain instead of Obama will be doing so because of Obama's plans for the country and his association with unsavory sorts like the Rev. Wright and William Ayers. They actually know these things ... unlike those who vote for Obama largely because 1) they want free stuff! and 2) his race.
I thought this was a pretty good piece.

That's what happens when people vote based on ethnicity rather than policy.
Something i came to the conclusion about about 5 years ago is that if we want to stop racial issues in this country, the government needs to help. What I mean by that is that any application I have filled out in my life has asked what your race is. Why does it matter. I am a human being. It doesn't matter what my skin color is or what my religion is etc etc. Hire me or award a scholarship based on achievement and worth, not skin color. The only place in this world that race should be tracked is in the medical industry, and that is because we know certain afflictions and diseases tend to follow racial lines. Doing away with race as a sorting of or country we could also do away with organizations such as NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People). When it was founded it was a decent idea as it helped to reverse the severe stigma against blacks in the south. However, times have gotten so bad that I've lost 2 jobs, and 5 scholarships in my time to people who were less qualified than I was, mostly because i was white (Before you ask, I was told that to those 7 items.) Voting for a president based on race is the dumbest idea anyone could ever have. Vote for your president of the most powerful nation on the world because he/she is qualified to do it and can handle the responsibility over 281 million people (http://www.census.gov/main/www/cen2000.html).
End of Rant.
I definitely see your point Az, and I sure wish it could actually be that way. The thing is, here in the south (and maybe elsewhere, I can't say), racism is still very, very prevalent. My last boss wouldn't hire a well-educated woman and took a lesser-qualified white male for a position that we had open simply because she was black (and probably also because she was female). She only got an interview because she had a 'white' sounding name. I have family members that still get nervous if a black family looks at a house that is for sale in their neighborhood for fear it will 'drive their property value down'. I have acquaintances who will not vote for a minority for office under any circumstances. I have worked around people who routinely refer to others as 'camel jockeys', 'spics', 'slant-eyes', and worse things I can't even bring myself to say. I went to a high school where we had a black and white of everything, we were so segregated - white and black prom queen, black and white valedictorian, you name it. The FIRST sorority in Louisiana State University's history to accept women of all colors was founded in 1990. I live in a city that is 45% white and 55% not, yet less than 15% of the businesses here are owned by non-white minorities. These things are not pretty or easy to admit, but it's the reality of how things are.
So I don't know what the answer is. I think until we can overcome the racism and discrimination that still occurs in this country, that we will not progress as a nation. I find it terribly sad that a common fear is that if we elect a black man as president of this country, that he may be assassinated by someone who doesn't like black people. I find it equally sad that people would vote or not vote for any leader based on the color of their skin. I know that I am the first generation to be born into a society where the discrimination and segregation of our parents' time has supposedly faded away, but all I can say is that I hope the next generation is more open minded than we are as a whole.
I was born in 1971. I wasn't around for slavery, the civil rights battles, or legal segregation. I bear absolutely no responsibility for anything I did not do.
The whole concept of "redistributing wealth" to address past wrongs (as Obama advocated in his 2001 speech) is idiotic. If I did not do it, I should not have to pay for it.
If I'm interviewing for a position, I want the person who gets the job to be determined based on qualifications, nothing more or less. Quotas breed resentment, and when you have a less-qualified person hired to meet a quota, it's painfully obvious to everyone else in the business. It perpetuates stereotypes as well.
If a business does not hire a qualified minority applicant, they are only hurting themselves. One of their competitors will hire that person, and be the better for it.
Setting up a culture of reliance of government will not help the "disenfranchised" rise above their current status. Long term, it will ensure that they stay there.
Short term gain, long term pain.
But thats the problem, THEY HELP TOO MUCH ALREADY.
As long as we make it easy to sit on your ass and not work yet still live in a nice home with groceries in the pantry nothings going to change.
How is it fair that I struggle every month to pay the bills, feed the kids, and gas up my truck, yet some "less fortionate" individual gets my Tax money to sit on his ass?
If the government wants to step in, fine, but cut off welfare, cut off food stamps, and make it so that in able eat or have a roof over your head you have to get up and work for it like I do.
Unfortionatly its not me that has the problem with racism. The government feeds it, the NAACP feeds it, and Individuals like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton feed it.
Racism exists, period. Get over it. The faster we all get past it the faster it will go away. As long as we sit around pointing fingers and playing the blame game it won't go away.
If everyone woke up tomorrow and started taking responsibility for their own problems, we as a whole would all be better off.
I tend to agree with Brorlis. The only resentment I have for any minority stems from the abuse of social programs designed to help those in need, not support them.
I have been an advocate for requiring birth control for those that receive government housing and monetary assistance. Want more kids? Become accountable for their welfare and education.
